Stifling Web Design →
This is a valid point. It’s hard to go straight from your head to HTML & CSS, as big of a fan as I am of designing in the browser. I still find myself sketching things out or mocking certain components up in Photoshop.

When design doesn’t matter →
Could not agree more with this perspective. A beautiful aesthetic is a nice-to-have, whereas a highly usable, functional, and reliable UX is a must-have.

A Closer Look at Crap →
This is a fantastic point – important for any designer to remember this. Your stuff may not be the best stuff out there, but it could be a heck of a lot worse.

Rubber Duck [UX] Debugging →
A good idea in general, but I prefer to just build a working prototype instead – accomplishing the same thing but less of a time sink. This depends entirely on the size of your team and the skillsets involved, however. In my case, I’m not that good at Photoshop or Keynote, but I’m pretty quick with HTML & CSS (largely thanks to SASS).

The Apathy Epidemic: Why your startup will suck... →
I very much experienced this with my first startup, TenthRow, although in that case a big part of the problem was the realization that our current business model just wasn’t scalable, no matter how many ways we tried to adjust it along the way. The music business is just a mess, inherently I think. I love it, but I highly doubt I’ll ever do another music startup.

Ready. Launch. Update! →
Great point. After you launch, let your analytics tell you what to build next or adjust, not the list of features that didn’t make the first iteration. Those features may or may not be important to your users, whereas their behavior will tell you exactly what’s important.

New Layouts for the Multi-Device Web →
Some great food for thought about not just designing for screens of different sizes, but how users actually use them (i.e. where to put buttons / controls to make them most ergonomic for the user, which varies dramatically across devices).
